APH - Europe's foster parents

Welcome to today's history lesson...
I got the idea for this comic strip when I read a speech of Sir Winston Churchill. Thanks to Hetalia I will never be able to take history seriously anymore...

England's text in the beginning (everything without speech bubble) is excerpts of Sir Winston Churchill's speech from the 19th September 1946. It's kind of funny to read knowing Hetalia (I didn't make up the text, not even the "family" and "partnership"). Churchill is indeed very positive about the "United States of Europe", but never mentions with even one word that the UK would want to have anything to do with it. He states clearly that he wants France and Germany to take the responsibility.
If only he had known that the two of them would turn out to be Europe's ultimate nightmare dream couple...

Later the UK wanted to join, mainly because of economic reasons, but also because he feared that France's influence in the EU grew too big. But France vetoed him out. That was (among other reasons) because the UK and USA were too close for France's liking, and he feared that the USA might gain too much influence on the European Union through the UK.
However, France didn't tell Germany about his planned veto before the voting. So Germany was caught off guard and was pretty angry at France.

The United Kingdom finally joined the European Union some years later in 1967 (effectively 1973), after some more quarrelling.

By the way, the European Union baby you see here looks like everybody’s little sunshine, but he’s really a spoiled brat that loves to boss his "Papa"s around. I imagine that Germany goes buying new toys every other day, whereas France has to cook (the baby grows fast) and play all the time. ;D And England is the Tsundere uncle who keeps repeating how annoying the kid is, but comes to visit every day nevertheless. (Damn… My imagination is running wild…)
In the background of the second to last panel you see the other EU founding members: Italy, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.
